Nick Segal, Chairman

Nick joined Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in August 2006 as a partner in our restructuring and insolvency group, based in London. Nick is dual qualified (England and New York) and has specialised in a wide variety of work in commercial and banking law, insolvency and litigation.

Nick has written and lectured extensively on restructuring restitution and insolvency law and has contributed to a number of leading textbooks. He is a visiting fellow at Queen Mary and Westfield College and at University College in the University of London.

Nick is a member of the board of the International Insolvency Institute (based in New York/Toronto), a member of the Advisory Board of Receivers, Administrations and Liquidators Quarterly, and is a fellow of The Society for Advanced Legal Studies.

Nick is on the Editorial Board of various journals in the corporate, banking and insolvency fields, including Insolvency Intelligence and The Company, Financial and Insolvency Law Review.

Nick's experience includes advising:

      Financial institutions, insolvency practitioners and other clients in relation to both domestic and international bankruptcy proceedings (including advising debtors, creditors and other stakeholders on US bankruptcy proceedings);
      On restructurings in the UK, US, Russia, Continental Europe, the Middle East and Asia;
      In relation to contested matters and litigation (particularly cross-border litigation) on distressed debt trading, project finance, securitization, derivatives and global custody arrangements.



Nick is dual-qualified (England and New York)
Nick was educated at Oxford University, where he obtained a first-class degree and was awarded the Carl Albert prize.


Nick was a previously a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell in their New York office for three years and Allen & Overy in London for 15 years.
